Deir el-Bahari, under the Theban cliffs.

Three colonnaded terraces rising against a 300-metre cliff — architecture answering landscape more directly than anything else in Egypt. Its reliefs record Hatshepsut's expedition to Punt and her claim of divine birth. After her death her successor Thutmose III had her images and cartouches erased across Egypt; the damage is plainly visible here, and it is why her reign was unknown until the nineteenth century.
