The Great Hypostyle Hall, Karnak.
134 columns across an acre and a half, the twelve down the central aisle standing 21 metres. Sety I cut the northern reliefs in raised relief and Ramesses II the southern in sunk relief, and you can watch the technique change as you walk the length of the hall. The gloom is original: light came in through stone clerestory grilles set high on the walls, never through the roof.
