Utrecht, Netherlands, Netherlands
6 September 2024 — the wharf canals.
Utrecht's canals are unlike Amsterdam's: the water sits a full storey below street level, with wharves and cellars cut into the embankment at the waterline, so the quays are working floors rather than roadside. The Dom Tower is the tallest church tower in the Netherlands and stands detached from its cathedral — the nave between them was brought down by a tornado in 1674 and never rebuilt.
